When my family first started thinking of ways to convince my little brother to go a drug addiction treatment center for his meth addiction, the most important thing we tried to look for were free drug addiction treatment programs.  My family is well off, but not rich, so finding any kind of affordable drug addiction treatment facility in Florida was extremely difficult.  Unfortunately, for most families everywhere, finding adequate health care for any kind of disease is difficult and drug alcohol addiction treatment is even more challenging than others.

les mains du soleil

Luckily for us however we were able to find a number online that helped get us  a list of all the drug addiction treatment programs available in our area.  The number was (866) 891-5211.  At first I was really skeptical because we had been looking for so long with no success, but since I had gotten to the end of my options I agreed to let them help.

The person I spoke to on the phone said her name was Gaylin.  She spoke to me for a while, just asking basic questions that ranged from the amount my brother was using, to the problems it had caused within our family.  Then she asked the question I had been dreading all along; “does he have health insurance?”  She said.

“No,” I replied, knowing full well our conversation was about to come to an end.

“Well, that’s alright,” she said “I’ve got a bunch of places right here that can help.”  I couldn’t believe my ears.  Every other place I had called told me I would either have to come up with thousands of dollars, or send my brother to an outpatient drug addiction treatment program.

Gaylin put me on hold for a few minutes, and when she came back she had a list of seven places that I could call, all of which worked with families that didn’t have the financial means to put their loved ones in private facilities without health insurance.

I called three of them, but they were full, however the fourth one I got in contact with told me to bring him in as soon as possible.  Once the place had agreed, I knew I had to talk to my brother.

His initial reaction was, and I quote; “hell no.”  I was devastated, and heart broken, but I remember Gaylin had told me to call her if I needed anything else, so I did.  She asked to speak with him.  I told her it was pointless, that there was no way he would go, and then she said that she had gone through exactly what he was going through, and that she would like to speak with him.  Alcohol intervention or drug intervention is the way to  finding drug addiction treatment or a drug addiction treatment center.

At first he was stubborn, but after a few minutes he left the room to speak in private.  When he came back he had tears in his eyes, and he asked me to take him to get help.  I wondered for many months what Gaylin had said that made him change his mind before I finally asked him, and when I did all he said was; “she understood what I was going through, but more than that she understood how to get out of it.”

I cry every time I think of that day, but not from sadness, instead from the joy I feel for getting my baby brother back.  I hope this will help some other person in need discover the little sliver of hope I was lucky enough to get through that phone line.  My family and I joke about it, and call Gaylin the phone fairy, because she was like my little brother’s fairy Godmother, she helped him transform.

my son is a heroin addict

depressed man

My son was perfect when he was born; smiling, huge and with a full head of hair. I’d never been so happy in all my life. He changed me from the moment my eyes caught sight of his little body. My selfish existence was annihilated, and all I could think of from that day on were ways in which I could improve his. It didn’t matter that his father was gone, because I knew that I could be there for him in ways that no one else on earth ever could be.

I watched him take his first step and then caught him when he toppled and fell, I heard his first word (which was “no”) and I brought him to his first day of school. I was always there and he was my best friend, my pride and joy, the entire purpose of my existence.

So you can imagine the kind of heart break I was in for when he began using drugs at the age of fifteen. It started off as a marijuana addiction, but quickly progressed to cocaine and eventually heroin. I’d never been so upset, so disappointed, so hopeless. I’ve always been the type of woman to fend for myself, and fight my own battles, but now I didn’t know where to go or who to battle. It was like guerrilla warfare; where there’s no solid point of attack, and the enemy keeps shifting shapes.

One moment he would be sweet and exhausted and the next he’d be angry and violent. His behavior became so erratic in fact that he was asked to leave school in his senior year. He promised to get his GED and signed up for it at least 3 times, but the day to take it would come and he would disappear.

Sometimes he would vanish for days, then eventually days would turn into weeks. He’d come home after an adventure exhausted, and pale, he would walk straight to his room and sometimes I’d hear him crying. I couldn’t get him to talk to me, and sometimes we’d both cry at the same time, in the same house but somehow worlds apart.

He turned 18 three weeks ago, and got arrested two days later. He was arrested for prostitution. I couldn’t believe my ears, I was so angry and heart broken, my little boy had fallen completely apart and there was nothing I could do.

I held him tight, and wouldn’t let go even as his arms bruised me as he tried to get away, finally he went limp in my embrace and we sat together rocking back and forth for an hour. That’s when I called The Watershed.

The man on the phone was kind. He explained the program, and told me how important it was to get my son into treatment immediately before he had the chance to change his mind. I didn’t think he would agree to ago, but to my amazement he said “yes.” I brought him to the airport and he got on the plane.

That was about three weeks ago. I talk to him now sometimes, and while I can still hear the sadness in his voice, its like a dream come true just to hear my son again. Its like he’s a whole new person already. I know that I’ll always be there for him, but I’ve also realized that I have to live my own life too, and stop enabling him.

The journey has just begun and while I know its just the beginning it still feels so incredible just to go to sleep at night knowing that he is safe.

One of the biggest problems that impact our society today is alcohol. This wretched substance is at the base of a lot of unpleasant situations and leads to a very bad outcome. The main problem with alcohol is that many people are led into a situation where they become addicted to alcohol by others. This may occur directly, if a person offers you a drink, or indirectly.

Treatment from Drug Addiction Comes from you - will power

Treatment for Drug Addiction helps you to find the way out of the downward spiral.

Advertisement is something that can imbue the idea that alcohol consumption can be sexy or cool. Giant billboards that can be seen from miles away offer a picture of a good looking woman standing next to a man with an alcoholic drink in his hand. Alcohol treatment

There are also direct approaches that bring alcohol into a person’s life. For instance, among teenagers, because they are highly exposed to the problem, when they attend parties or gatherings, they are offered alcohol and if they refuse, they are mocked by others. In the life of adults, there are very few events that do not serve alcohol as the main course. Alcholics

Since all our lives are touched in one way or another by the last legal drug, at some point we will be in need of the proper alcohol  treatment program. When a person become addicted to alcohol, they cannot be controlled and lots of times this leads to more unpleasant situations. The most hilarious part of it all is that the next day the guilty don’t remember anything.

In order to be completely honest, many start drinking on their own, because there are lots of hardships that life throws at us. But each situation has a solution and drinking is not one of them. Making the addicts understand this is at the cornerstone of any good addiction treatment program.

The first and most vital step in any addiction treatment program is admittance. If the addict can firmly state that this has become a very important problem and they need help in overcoming the challenge, the alcohol addiction treatment is headed to success.

Surely this is not the only condition needed for the success of the addiction treatment program. But without this, failure is guaranteed. Another important part of this solution is support that should come from everyone involved in the addict’s life: family, friends, colleagues and others.

Educating the addict is very important. Any successful alcohol addiction treatment program identifies what situations can lead to a relapse. These situations should be avoided at all cost by the addict in order to ensure the success of the program.

While the support of close persons is needed, most of the time the addicts should be introduced in a specialized addiction treatment center. This is the place where they can be carefully monitored by specialized staff and they wouldn’t have access to temptations.

If you don’t know which alcohol addiction treatment center to choose, the facility that can provide services of the highest quality can be found at The Water Shed. Check out their website thewatershed.com for more information regarding this addiction treatment center.
