When my family first started thinking of ways to convince my little brother to go a drug addiction treatment center for his meth addiction, the most important thing we tried to look for were free drug addiction treatment programs. My family is well off, but not rich, so finding any kind of affordable drug addiction treatment facility in Florida was extremely difficult. Unfortunately, for most families everywhere, finding adequate health care for any kind of disease is difficult and drug alcohol addiction treatment is even more challenging than others.

Luckily for us however we were able to find a number online that helped get us a list of all the drug addiction treatment programs available in our area. The number was (866) 891-5211. At first I was really skeptical because we had been looking for so long with no success, but since I had gotten to the end of my options I agreed to let them help.
The person I spoke to on the phone said her name was Gaylin. She spoke to me for a while, just asking basic questions that ranged from the amount my brother was using, to the problems it had caused within our family. Then she asked the question I had been dreading all along; “does he have health insurance?” She said.
“No,” I replied, knowing full well our conversation was about to come to an end.
“Well, that’s alright,” she said “I’ve got a bunch of places right here that can help.” I couldn’t believe my ears. Every other place I had called told me I would either have to come up with thousands of dollars, or send my brother to an outpatient drug addiction treatment program.
Gaylin put me on hold for a few minutes, and when she came back she had a list of seven places that I could call, all of which worked with families that didn’t have the financial means to put their loved ones in private facilities without health insurance.
I called three of them, but they were full, however the fourth one I got in contact with told me to bring him in as soon as possible. Once the place had agreed, I knew I had to talk to my brother.

His initial reaction was, and I quote; “hell no.” I was devastated, and heart broken, but I remember Gaylin had told me to call her if I needed anything else, so I did. She asked to speak with him. I told her it was pointless, that there was no way he would go, and then she said that she had gone through exactly what he was going through, and that she would like to speak with him. Alcohol intervention or drug intervention is the way to finding drug addiction treatment or a drug addiction treatment center.
At first he was stubborn, but after a few minutes he left the room to speak in private. When he came back he had tears in his eyes, and he asked me to take him to get help. I wondered for many months what Gaylin had said that made him change his mind before I finally asked him, and when I did all he said was; “she understood what I was going through, but more than that she understood how to get out of it.”
I cry every time I think of that day, but not from sadness, instead from the joy I feel for getting my baby brother back. I hope this will help some other person in need discover the little sliver of hope I was lucky enough to get through that phone line. My family and I joke about it, and call Gaylin the phone fairy, because she was like my little brother’s fairy Godmother, she helped him transform.
